Object description : |
Taken over several nights form Nov 2011 to Jan 2012. This is a LRGB composite where L is pure Ha (7nm).
The Horsehead Nebula a.k.a. B33 is a dark nebula in the constellation Orion. The red glow originates from hydrogen gas predominantly behind the nebula, ionized by the nearby bright star. The darkness of the Horsehead is caused mostly by thick dust.
To the lower left is the Flame nebula a.k.a. NGC2024. The flame is lit by the bright ultraviolet light emmited by the bright star Alnitak. |
